Grace and Anthony got married at Shepherd’s Run, one of the most beautiful wedding venues in Rhode Island. Leading up to their wedding, Grace and Anthony knew they wanted a day filled with authentic moments and genuine happiness. They wanted to be present.
And so it was, and so they were. It was the best day.
If you’ve been looking at wedding venues in Rhode Island and you want something romantic, relaxed and elevated, Shepherd’s Run holds that balance so well.
Grace and Anthony’s wedding was exactly this.

There are so many incredible wedding venues in Rhode Island. Coastal estates, historic mansions, waterfront properties, vineyards. But Shepherd’s Run is one that values presence. It keeps you in the moment from preparation to reception. Grace originally loved it for the romantic feel and the fact that it’s also a winery (wine girls, you understand!). But the vineyards, the manor, the gardens, the historic character, and the stone walls all work together to set a beautiful scene.
It’s beautiful in a very timeless way. But what really makes it special, from a photographer’s perspective, is the way the day flows.
You can stay on-site and get ready in the bridal suite. You walk to your ceremony inside the intimate walled garden, then step into the vineyard for sunset portraits. Your guests are enjoying cocktail hour on the manor terrace. No checking the time, no rushing. And this changes the feel of your photos because it changes the focus of your day. When you’re not rushed, you’re in the moment. When you’re present, your photos feel real. If you’re planning a Shepherd’s Run wedding or touring vineyard wedding venues in Rhode Island, staying on-site is one way to add to your overall experience on your wedding day. The morning sets the tone for the rest of the day.
And peaceful mornings create present brides.

Grace and Anthony stayed on the property the night before, which meant the morning unfolded slowly. No hotel transfers. No transportation timelines. Just coffee, laughter, and a lot of sweet time. As a mom, I’m constantly aware of how fast life is moving. I blink and another moment has come and gone, and weddings are the same in this way.
So I document the small things. Grace’s mom helping her into her Eva Lendel gown. The way her hands adjusted the necklace. Her hair gathered in a piled twist that framed her natural beauty. The delicate jewelry she chose that completed her look.
The key to a wedding that feels like you is to simply be yourself, celebrate what you love, and be in the moment. It was so important to Grace that she felt like herself, and it was such a joy to capture that on camera.

Grace was very clear from the beginning that she didn’t want anything to feel staged. She wanted her entire wedding day to feel authentic, especially their first look. So we did it in such a way that their first time seeing each other felt less performative and much more real.
Anthony stepped outside, thinking he was heading to their first look spot to wait for Grace. What he didn’t realize was that she was already standing right outside the door waiting for him. When he opened it, his reaction was completely real. There was no dramatic positioning, no tap on the shoulder, no anxious waiting. Just excitement and pure joy over seeing each other for the first time, dressed and ready.
They shared emotional private vows before the ceremony. It was so special that they were able to take their time together and take it all in before the events of the day unfolded.

After their private vows, we took a few minutes for portraits before the ceremony began. This is one of my favorite parts of a wedding day, because the anticipation is still present but the nerves have softened.
We stayed close to the manor. The historic steps, textured stone, the soft November light around them offered the perfect setting. I gave gentle direction when it was needed, but mostly I let their emotions and excitement guide our portraits.
Pre-ceremony portraits hold a different kind of energy. The ceremony is moments away and you can feel that anticipation between them. The next time they embrace in this way, they’ll be married.
We had so much fun with their family and wedding party portraits, and then it was time for guests to arrive.

After their portraits, it was time for the ceremony. Shepherd’s Run has a beautiful ceremony location inside a walled garden. If you’re looking for a wedding venue that combines a secret garden atmosphere and effortless European charm, the garden at this New England wedding venue is one of a kind.
The ceremony in the walled garden at Shepherd’s Run is, in many ways, the heart of the entire property. While there are many beautiful wedding venues in Rhode Island, this garden feels distinct the moment you step inside. Enclosed by historic stone walls and layered with climbing greenery, it creates a quiet separation from the rest of the venue.
White chairs lined the aisle, drawing the eye toward the natural stone backdrop where Grace and Anthony would stand. The space naturally gathers people inward so that guests feel close but not crowded.
Grace walked down the aisle toward Anthony as her brother officiated the ceremony. There is something deeply meaningful about being married by someone who has known you your entire life. You could feel that history in the way her brother spoke, in the way they smiled, in the way the garden grew still as they exchanged vows.
I truly believe this ceremony space is the reason many couples choose Shepherd’s Run. The manor is beautiful. The vineyards are stunning at sunset. But the ceremony in the garden is the reason everyone is there. There is intimacy without effort and romance without production.

After their ceremony in the garden, we made our way to the vineyard for sunset. If you’re looking at wedding venues in Rhode Island and want portraits that feel natural and full of life, the vineyard at Shepherd’s Run is one of my favorite places to photograph. Grace’s first request after the ceremony was simple. She just wanted to run through the vineyard with her husband.
They ran up and down the rows of vines. So. Much. Joy. As for my role, I wanted them to always remember this feeling of ‘just married’ under a November sunset. I leaned heavily on movement, and I posed and prompted them in a way that was guided by their excitement to keep those feelings at the forefront. I wanted them to stay as present as possible. This left us with portraits that felt like them.
At Shepherd’s Run, the property naturally creates beautiful backdrops, so portraits feel easy and organic. A little movement and trust go such a long way.

If you’re planning a Shepherd’s Run wedding (or exploring wedding venues in Rhode Island) and you want your day to feel natural and relaxed, here’s my biggest advice as someone who has photographed many weddings:
Take your time.
Build margin into your timeline, plan your ceremony around the light, and protect ten minutes at sunset. Stay on-site if you can. Don’t overthink portraits. Shepherd’s Run already gives you such a beautiful foundation with the flow of events, the vineyard setting, and the ability to move through the day without constant transitions. You can enjoy it, and be yourself.
I don’t want you to miss the in-between moments. The quiet glances. The deep breath before walking down the aisle. A big part of my role is protecting that space for you. I want you to have time for these small moments to happen, for you to be present in them, and then to have photographs that always bring you back.
Most importantly, plan your day around what feels right for you, not what’s trending. If private vows feel more like you, build that into the day. Maybe you want to run through the vineyard after the ceremony, so we’ll make space for it. If you want to enjoy your cocktail hour, then that’s exactly what you should do. The property makes that easy and I make sure it’s documented in a way that still feels true to you.

If you’re reading this and Shepherd’s Run feels like the kind of place you could picture yourself getting married, know that your wedding day can feel intentional. It can feel like you.
As a documentary-style New England wedding photographer, my role is to photograph your day as it naturally unfolds. I will always prioritize a meaningful moment over a posed one. And the things that are important to you, become important to me.
I’ll guide you when you need direction. When you’re excited, I’ll be excited with you. If you’re quiet, I’ll give you the space you need. And if I’m quiet, that just means you’re right where you need to be.
I prioritize real moments. Big and small. Those are the images that stay with you. For some couples, these are the photos their children will hold one day. And when you look back on your wedding day in photographs, I want you to remember how it all felt.
If Shepherd’s Run is one of the wedding venues in Rhode Island you’re considering, and you’re looking for a photographer who will be present with you, I would truly love to be there.
